Ah, summer – a time when we can all take a collective exhale from the frantic pace of short days, cold weather, and nonstop schedules. Even when life stays busy, longer days and warmer weather gives us the sense that time has finally slowed down. At the start of each summer, my children and I always made time to complete our summer bucket lists to make the most of our time.
While creative freedom was encouraged, there were a few constraints. They had to include:
- Something free: Dive into The Agile Work Profiler and our Career Explorer Tools to discover strengths and map out plans for volunteering, camps, or summer programs.
- Learning opportunities: Take a virtual course! Join us online for an Agilities Tour or Intro to Agilities Resources for Educators – see all opportunities here!
- Something you’ve never done before: Try learning a new skill, or sign up for our FREE two-day Agilities Coach Training at The Foundation in Kansas City.
As we start this new season, we encourage you to create your own “bucket list of learning.” The DeBruce Foundation would love to be a part of your summer.
What’s on your summer bucket list?

Empowering Columbia, MO graduates
We’re grateful to partner with universities, high schools, and nonprofit organizations to help graduates build confidence as they take their next steps after graduation.
Recently, Love Columbia and the William Guitar Little Foundation partnered with The DeBruce Foundation to share the free Graduation Toolkit with high school and college graduates in Columbia, Missouri. The effort was featured by the Columbia Daily Tribune, highlighting the importance of providing accessible career-planning resources during a pivotal moment in students’ lives.
Designed to support graduates entering an evolving workforce, the Graduation Toolkit helps users better understand their strengths, explore career pathways, and create plans for the future.
Preparing students for tomorrow
In the latest episode of Empowering Careers, Dr. Leigh Anne Taylor Knight sat down with Jasmine Winslow, Executive Director of Multi-State Programs at AVID, to discuss what it takes to help students prepare for the future.
Jasmine shares how schools can help students develop the confidence and self-advocacy needed to navigate college, career, and life. She also highlights the importance of creating systems that ensure every learner has access to meaningful experiences, support networks, and pathways for success.
They both explore how educators and communities can work together to expand opportunities and help students see their potential beyond their current circumstances.

From exploring skills to building a future
Kenneth Arteaga Lopez first encountered the Agilities as an introductory activity in an internship.
Two years later, he sees the Agilities as something much more powerful: a tool that helped him better understand himself, strengthen important skills, and gain confidence in his future career path.
Internships at the Kansas City Health Department and Children’s Mercy Research Institute exposed him to public health and clinical research. Along the way, the Agilities provided a framework for understanding the skills needed for each role — and the steps to take to build them.
Learn about his journey and how he’s using the Agilities to build his future in healthcare in this month’s blog.
