Tyra is a Strategic Communications Intern at The DeBruce Foundation and a student at Kansas State University. She is currently a junior in the AQ Miller School of Communication with a specialization in politics and identity. At K-State, she engages in several academic and leadership organizations, including Pre-Law Ambassadors, Silver Key Honorary, and Tri-Alpha First-Generation Honor Society. In her role with Silver Key, Tyra served as community chair, engaging her peers in service efforts dedicated to helping the Manhattan community.
Before her work with The DeBruce Foundation, she spent a semester in Washington, D.C., as a communications intern for the Association for Behavioral Health and Wellness, promoting awareness on mental health and substance use disorder policy. As a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult), she hopes to continue her advocacy efforts in experiences related to inclusion and cultural competency. Alongside her identity, Tyra’s previous work in advocacy and volunteerism has led her to pursue a lifelong commitment to justice and reform. In her free time, she enjoys exploring cafés, learning languages, and listening to new music.
