Happy National Career Development Month!

It’s the BEST time of the year here at The DeBruce Foundation. We’ve been celebrating all month long by…

  • Releasing new, free, K-12 Career Literacy resources tailored for our youngest learners, along with valuable implementation tools for educators
  • Sharing our latest research on building Employment Empowerment
  • Convening national education and workforce experts at our Annual Employment Empowerment event, exploring how we can all help young people build bright futures

More than 950 of you registered to join us for our Employment Empowerment event – our biggest event to date!!! Our partners and panelists shared incredible stories of the impact of their work: Kristin DiQuollo of Fred Rogers Productions discussed fostering executive-function skills in young children, while Angie Castera of American Student Assistance highlighted tools that help teens explore careers. Jessica Asbury of Piper School District shared how integrating the Agilities© empowers her students, and Jylon Hollinshed introduced new animated Agilities videos for elementary audiences. Thank you to those partners and everyone who attended. For those who couldn’t join us, I invite you to check out the recap below.

We are so grateful to do this work during National Career Development Month, and we’re honored to work alongside organizations and activators like YOU who are building bright careers every day. Let’s continue expanding pathways all year long!

Hip Hop Science at Science City

On October 3 and 4, award-winning science communicator Maynard Okereke, the Hip Hop M.D., joined The DeBruce Foundation’s Rebecca, Kristie, Cindy, and Agilities Coach Tim Anderson to engage KC Metro students in the wonders of scientific curiosity at Science City. Students made the most of their own Agilities in Okereke’s fascinating world of Hip Hop Science.

HirePaths: Expand career options using Agilities

In a recent feature, Hirepaths says “Agilities.org is a great resource designed to help people explore how their skills align with different careers and broaden their career options. Parents and teachers can also use it to inspire young career-seekers.”

Also included are testimonials from students who have used Agilities in their career exploration. From excelling in interviews to uncovering new opportunities, Agilities empowers students to identify and communicate their strengths at every stage of their journey.

STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice Convening 2024

At the 2024 STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice Convening, we took the main stage to discuss Career Literacy and its impact on future STEM pathways.

Led by Dr. Leigh Anne Taylor Knight, our Access in Action panel featured industry and education leaders: Christina Chandler of JE Dunn Construction, Dan Denniston from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, and DeBruce Career Corps member Annalia Escalante! The panel fostered conversations about overcoming barriers and expanding career opportunities in STEM for all.

Expanding pathways with our future leaders

The DeBruce Career Corps recently participated in a DBCC Leadership Lab!

Students began by discussing their favorite mentors and how they believe great leaders engage their Agilities. Then, College and Career members provided insight to help address current leadership challenges for High School members.

This lab was also a great opportunity for our future leaders to learn more about how they can expand leadership pathways alongside The DeBruce Foundation!
