Happy fall!

My name is Alexandria Lundquist, and I am a Strategic Communications Intern at The DeBruce Foundation as well as a DeBruce Career Corps member. I am also a junior at Colorado Christian University.

When I was first entering college, like most freshmen, I thought I had my career path figured out. But, I quickly realized that was not the case. It was in this moment I realized the power of a strong network.

Because of the DeBruce Career Corps, I had worked on growing my network throughout high school and the start of college. I learned how to evaluate and grow my network, including diversifying to ensure I was connecting with people from different social circles, educational experiences, occupations, backgrounds, and cultures.

Most importantly, I learned to develop relationships so that when challenges come, we could help each other. I was able to reach out to my network to discuss a variety of career paths, and I finally landed on the direction in which I wanted to focus my career. I am very thankful to my network for helping me through this, and I know that if I need anything else in my career, they will be right there with me. I’ll be there for them, too.

I encourage all of you to continue to grow your network—especially during National Career Development Month in November! Together, we can grow strong, empowered careers.

Celebrate Career Development All Month Long

After you kick off National Career Development Month with us, continue celebrating with our partners all month long! Here’s a glimpse:

What is the impact of an internship?

More than 300 ProX interns took the Agile Work Profiler©, which identifies one’s current work skills and interests, before and after their professional experience this past summer. This data resulted in unique insights into the positive impact of early-career opportunities.

Follow the link to dive into data visualizations, highlighting students’ change in top Agility, change in perceived abilities, shift of work activity preferences, and increase in Career Literacy.

Serving our community, together

Partnering with Lindsey Patterson Smith, we recently had the honor of welcoming new leaders to the Kansas City philanthropic community: President & CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Dr. DeAngela Burns-Wallace, and President & CEO of the Patterson Family Foundation, Dr. Kevin Prine.

By gathering, connecting, and celebrating with leaders throughout the philanthropic community, we are building network strength that can amplify each other’s missions, collaborate for positive change, and better serve our community!

Finding Purpose and Expanding Career Pathways

“When I was in college, I wrote my mission statement: ‘Improve the quality of life for others in their near and far environments.’ Since then, it has grown with me along my career journey and guided each step of my path.” – Dr. Leigh Anne Taylor Knight, our Executive Director and COO, in Bold Journey Magazine

Helping the Next Class Succeed

Ruby Rios has long been a dedicated member of the DeBruce Career Corps. As a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and now building her career in cybersecurity, she is quick to help the next students along their career path.

This month, she led a career readiness workshop with the UMKC Professional Career Escalators program, introducing the Agile Work Profiler and the Agilities to students to help plan their career future. Thank you, Ruby!

Empowering the Maryland workforce
