Hello, and happy May!
The sights and sounds of spring inspire me, and so do the sights and sounds around The DeBruce Foundation lately. Here’s a glimpse for you:
An elementary student discovering a new interest through a STEM activity at Remake Learning Days.
An internship seeker affirming their value: “This helped me think outside of my box and realize that I do have value to offer in the workforce,” at our vShips Success Workshop.
A college senior planning: “These tools helped me prepare to land my job after graduation and are helping me build the career I want,” after using the Graduation Toolkit.
Wherever you are on your career journey, I hope you pursue your interests and passions, know the value you bring, and find meaning in the future you are building. Check out the resources below to help you and your networks expand your career pathways.
Congratulations, Class of 2021!

Remake Learning Across America
We are celebrating the 900+ learning experiences offered for families through Remake Learning Days Across America!
Our communities have been “remaking” learning with collaborative, project-based experiences that relate to young people’s interests and passions. Spearheaded locally by KC STEM Alliance, we were proud to sponsor these opportunities for youth and families to learn and expand their pathways together.
Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education
We recently had the opportunity to write a guest column for Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine sharing key insights from our vShips Success Workshop.
The virtual workshop focused on helping college students find, land, and succeed in virtual internships. It featured wisdom from employers leading virtual internship programs, career building experts, and students who have successfully launched their careers from virtual internships.
Thank you to Kansas City Public Schools for inviting our Executive Director and COO, Dr. Leigh Anne Taylor Knight, to be a guest on KCPS Homeroom!

Improving Experiences for Adult Learners
After releasing the practice report, “Reaction to Crisis: Adult Higher Education’s Lessons Learned,” our partners, Council for Adult and Experiential Learning and KC Scholars, had the opportunity to write for The EvoLLLution:
“Our work together has evolved from research to timely action, and we are confident that our common focus on adult learners will only grow as their importance to postsecondary and workforce ecosystems becomes all the more undeniable.” Read the full article
Wisdom at the vShips Success Workshop
For our recent vShips Success Workshop, DeBruce Career Corps members not only helped plan the workshop, but they served as speakers and panelists too.
