Hi! My name is Grace Garner!

I am a Strategic Communications Intern, a rising Junior at Lincoln University of Missouri, and I am proud to be at The DeBruce Foundation! As a student in a summer internship, no less a DeBruce Foundation internship, I have gained so much opportunity and experience while supporting my team.

I’ve used my top Agilities – Serving and Caring, Innovating, and Organizing – across all areas of my internship, and even outside of it this summer in my volunteer roles. Getting to use my skills has only furthered my love for non-profit work and appreciation for The Foundation’s mission of expanding career pathways. Knowing that I am not only working towards a cause, but working with an organization as impactful as DeBruce makes me proud to make a difference every day at work.

What Agilities have you been using latelyWhich Agilities will you use next to make an impact? Together, we can use our Agilities to make a difference.

Activating Agilities in higher education

In partnership with the Council of Independent Colleges, The DeBruce Foundation recently hosted a webinar on activating Agilities for recruiting, building confidence and guiding career decisions with students.

Our purpose in utilizing the Agilities… is to kind of open our student’s eyes and give them a better understanding of what it is that they need to do while they are in school to better prepare for life after graduation,” said Gabriela Morales, Director of Student Success at Missouri Valley College. Watch the webinar.

The panel included leaders from Morehouse College, Rockhurst University, and Missouri Valley College, who shared their unique and innovative experiences integrating Agilities into their curriculum and programming.

Developing Others and growing work skills

DeBruce Career Corps members put their Developing Others Agility to work by facilitating professional development sessions for hundreds of students in the ProX Summer Internship program!

Students came away from their internships knowing their top Agilities, how they used them this summer, and how to talk about their strengths and interests in the future:

“I Innovated by designing a career fair for my high school”
“I Managed the work flow within my team and organized the development of our solution and project”
“I Served and Cared for children where I resolved conflicts between them… and helped them engage in STEM-based games.”

Integrating Agilities to unlock student potential

Tim Anderson, Career Navigator at Liberty Public Schools, discusses how the Agilities can be seamlessly integrated in student programing:

I work with a variety of students in the high school environment, all at different levels of career readiness. However, nearly all of my students light up when they learn their top Agilities.”

He also shares his four big takeaways from his students’ responses to the Agilities. Read the full blog.
