In October of 2024, The DeBruce Foundation partnered with American Student Assistance, using their TeenVoice platform to survey 600 youth ages 13-19 from across the country. The responses revealed a disconnect—and an opportunity.
Students feel confident:
• 60% of students are thinking about or know their future career.
• 78% report some level of confidence about their career choice.
But evidence shows they need support in developing Career Literacy skills:
• 51% are considering 2 or fewer careers, despite the Bureau of Labor Statistics finding that the average American will have 12 different jobs in their lifetime.
• 49% have little to idea about how to prepare for a career, lacking the tools or opportunity to do so.
To bridge this gap, The DeBruce Foundation has a range of resources designed for students, young adults, and those looking to explore and expand their career opportunities. The Agile Work Profiler© can help teens discover their top Agilities©, Career Explorer Tools© can help people find personalized career options based on their Agilities, and new K-12 Agilities© lessons and materials are designed to prepare students for future career success in the classroom.
