Hello!

Have you ever figured out something complicated and struggled to explain it? Or have you looked at a chart and gotten a bit lost?

Me too, and it’s one reason why I work in data visualization. My name is Christopher Laubenthal, and I am The DeBruce Foundation’s new Data Design Manager. In short, I contribute to efficiency and effectiveness through the visualization of information.

Data visualization is all about the reader; it’s all about you. And The DeBruce Foundation is dedicated to helping you better understand yourself in a manner that expands pathways to economic growth and opportunity. I get to use charts and dashboards to lift others up and support change — exciting stuff. Can’t wait to share it. Stay tuned!

Preparing for successful, Agile careers

Watch out world, these fantastic first-year students are coming your way! We had a blast with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Summer Bridge Scholars Program, an intensive 8-week experience for incoming first-year students to prepare them for a successful college career.

Together with UMKC and DeBruce Foundation staff, students explored their Agilities, expanded their networks, and mapped out the next steps in their education and career journeys. Learn about using Agilities in higher education.

Drawing bright futures in Maryland

Shout out to the Maryland Department of Labor, Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning, for engaging in Draw Your Future with Agilities with us!

We’re eager to watch this dynamic group share these resources with their clients as they move from unemployment and underemployment to achieving their next career goals!

Leveraging Agilities in school programming

Kudos to our friends at Frontier Schools for their commitment to investing in, mentoring, and developing their students!

Poet T.L. Sanders, Senior College Counselor and Program Director, recently went through our Certified Agilities Coach training, and he is already leveraging our career literacy resources in new school programming.

Here’s a glimpse of the program in Kansas City’s Northeast News: “’We are also working in conjunction with the Agilities Program of Career Exploration developed by the DeBruce Foundation to enhance this endeavor, using great online technology that the mentors and mentees can use together online, in addition to face to face meetings at school‘” Read the full article.

Early career exploration in Education Week

Many nonprofit organizations, business leaders, educators, and parents are all asking the same question: how do we best help young people prepare for the workforce?

Our Integration Specialist, Cindy Schluckebier, recently got to chat with Education Week and weighed in on the importance of early career exploration.

With affirmation of their value, exploration of career opportunities, and networks to connect them, we can help our students build bright futures. Read the article.

Many pathways to success

Recently, KSHB 41 reported on inflation and college affordability. Robin Smith, Senior Director, weighed in on making informed decisions for your education and career path:

This is a time when we really have to look at return on investment…what is that cost of education? What kind of salary or other benefits can you expect to receive when you get out? Make that determination at the individual and the family level and then also think about their many pathways to get to success.” Watch the full story.

Creating social change through internships

Congratulations to our organizational partner, Startland Education, and their Social Change Interns for the impact they created through their internship with ProX Summer!

Over 5 weeks, interns created, tested out, and presented real-world solutions to social issues in their communities – all while gaining work skills and exploring career opportunities that will help them continue to pursue their interests, skills, and passions. Check out their solutions.

Welcome, new members!

We had a blast recently welcoming students to our office and introducing them to the DeBruce Career Corps!

The day included a presentation on luncheon etiquette, networking with The Debruce Foundation team, getting to know the Agilities of work, and improv!

DeBruce Career Corps members play a crucial role in advising our team, testing career literacy resources, and informing our mission. Learn more about the DeBruce Career Corps.
